In the late 1980’s, my family lived through an ice cream boom while commercial fishing during the summers. I don’t know if it corresponded to a true boom in the ice cream industry or rather we were new to an ice cream rich environment.
We were hand trolling out of Port Alexander at the lower end of Baranof Island in Alaska. We would fish for three or four days, icing down each day’s catch of salmon until we returned to Port Alexander to sell our fish to the Sitka Sound Seafood’s buying station anchored in the Port Alexander harbor. We would reward our selves with pints of Haagen-Dazs ice cream – that was until we discovered the Tofutti line of frozen nondairy deserts.
Tofutti produced only a few flavors back then, our favorite by far was Wildberry Supreme, vanilla ice cream with ribbons of sweet wild berry sauce running through it. Our family was drawn to the ice cream, both for the flavor and the fact that it was built from dairy-free soy – not that we don’t like cream – but Tofutti is probably a tad better for you than full fat ice cream.
Jumping forward to only a few years ago, I became interested in Tofutti again from an investor standpoint. Business publications indicate an increased demand for natural foods, and that demand is very apparent in the DC area. This product is highly desired by vegetarians and vegans because of its “non-harmful ingredients”. So after introducing my wife to Wildberry Supreme which now tastes a little too sweet but is still very enjoyable, I added a small selection of Tofutti stock to my portfolio. I’ve enjoyed a stock price that increased from somewhere around $2 to $3 then flattened out. We now have a box of the Cuties bars in our freezer and I long for another tub of Wildberry Supreme.
Now on to the good part, for quite some time Tofutti has been offering coupons good for a free box of their Cuties bars on their website! Visit the sign up page or look for the offer on the Tofutti homepage. Request your free sample, acquire it from your local grocer, and then you will enjoy it and not notice the fact that the Cuties contain no milk products.
