Received at Washington D.C. International Wine & Food Festival
Value: $0.50
Significance: 4/5

My wife and I attend many wine events in the DC area, so when we had the opportunity to volunteer at the Washington D.C. International Wine & Food Festival, we happily attended. One goodie that made its first appearance was clear plastic cocktail plates. Martens was passing them out for free to everyone. They were promoting their VW dealership, so the goodie could have been co-sponsored by VW.

The cocktail plate was quite appropriate for the wine festival, and it is cheap, yet useful. It is clear plastic; with semi separate area to put say dip, a plate area, and a holder for a wine glass. The stem of the wine glass fits in a slot, you then slide the glass down and it is locked into place.

Or do you need cocktail plates printed for an event? Try The Discount Printer or similar company.

The only down side to this goodie was that the Washington D.C. International Wine & Food Festival is really mostly wine, with only a few food vendors attending. Therefore, the plate did not have a lot of use.

Martens went a tad overboard on the printing, covering most of the service with the VW Drivers Wanted logo, their address and their logo. A month or so later, while volunteering at the Share Our Strength – Taste of the Nation® we saw similar plates offered by Jenn-Air. This time the printing looked more like etching so the plates looked much better for the user.

These plates are often sold at wineries for about $1-$3, and I imagine that they can also be found at large liquor stores. We now have these in the picnic kit. Unfortunately, we did not pickup any of the Jenn-Air plates, those were nice enough that we could take them to other indoor wine tastings.
