Choice Organic Tea's Fair Trade flavors
Choice Organic Tea's Fair Trade flavors.

When I recieved the Choice Organic Tea package, I was interested in trying the Organic Chai Spice Black Tea. I wanted to try it because my chai experience has been limited to sweet powder that is mixed with hot milk, courtesy of the coffee shop in my building. That experience was a one time only event because the mix is exceedingly sweet. With such a limited and poor experience, I felt that trying a chai in a tea form might be an improvement, and it was.

The best way for me to describe the tea is to compare it to the various holiday lines of tea offered by major brands in the past view years. It’s aroma is in the same group as say an Gingerbread Spice or English Toffee tea, very strong, rather sweet and good smelling.

Generally, those strong smelling teas, even the standard Bengal Spice, leave something to be desired when it comes to taste. They usually are a bit too strong and the flavor seems a little off to me – as if they are not blended for my pallet.

So when I moved on from the aroma of the Organic Chai Spice Black Tea to the taste I was surprised with a well balanced flavor that I’ve missed in other teas. Not only was the aroma balanced and strong, but the flavor was also smooth and strong. It seems to be the flavor that I’ve been looking for to match those teas with strong aromas.

The Organic Chai Spice Black Tea is one tea that I plan to find in the store and buy a box for myself.

The blend is part of their Gourmet Blends line of organic teas. The following is their description, however please note that I enjoyed it immensely without the milk or sweetener.

Chai Spice Black Tea* – Our distinctive organic chai favors the rich Assam black teas of the Brahmaputra Valley, and highly-prized cardamom. Make this tea strong, and temper it with milk and sweetener.

My wife sampled the Organic Northwest Blackberry Tea, also part of their Gourmet Blends line of organic teas. The nicely flavored tea had a very nice strong red wine color to match the blackberry flavor.

Organic Northwest Blackberry Tea is an appropriate flavor for a company based out of Seattle. These berries are probably farmed, the plants just grow wild (with fruit) otherwise.

As a child, we lived in that area and all of the fences lining the fields and roads are covered with blackberries. Even when we visited a few years ago, it was simple to find my wife an example blackberry patch to pick some berries from.
