On Tuesday, I posted about the box of goodies I received from Celestial Seasonings and completely overlooked another wonderful goodie they offer to anyone in the Boulder, Colorado area – guest tours of their factory.
My wife and I visited the factory two years ago and enjoyed the tour. You get to learn about the founding of the company – Mo Siegel gathering wild herbs in the Rocky Mountains. You then view their art gallery with original paintings from their tea boxes and see a collection of teapots and teacups.
After perusing the art gallery, the tour moves into the warehouse area of the factory. The highlight of the warehouse tour is the peppermint room where all of the peppermint is stored so it doesn’t ruin the flavor of milder tea. The red and white candy-cane colors on the wall make you feel like you are inside a candy factory. The peppermint room clears up or blows out your sinuses with a wonderful, strong mint aroma.
On the factory floor, you can watch the teas being made, from leaves (ordered from various exotic locations all over the world) to box. It is cool to see such a clean factory. The Celestial Seasonings Factory factory is very orderly and very dry as it packages the tea. There is little confusion and lots of automation.
We were offered a complimentary two-package tea sampler at the end of the tour.
After the tour, you get to sample numerous teas in their store tearoom. There you will also find discounted and full price teas and accessories available for purchase. We bought many of our Christmas presents there that year.
If you are in the Denver or Boulder area, you should take the time to visit the Celestial Seasonings Factory. Tours are free and last 45 minutes, plus whatever time you spend in the shop. But, please note that only children over 5 are allowed on the factory floor and in the mint room.
