Starbucks sent a rejection letter in response to my request:
Can you please send me some promotional goodies or samples of your products?
The reason given was that my idea doesn’t align with their needs. That I understand quite well. But what I find mildly interesting is that the form letter continues on as if I had submitted a new product or marketing concept.
Since Starbucks actively develops products and marketing concepts on its own, we cannot accept or obligate ourselves with regard to proprietary concepts or information you believe are disclosed in your materials.
Starbucks must get a lot of materials submitted for product ideas, just like Apple Computer. Since they do most of their marketing in-house, they have to actively block such submissions. Otherwise, someone might feel that their submitted idea was used without compensation.

Personally, I did not think I was submitting an idea, rather asking for them to send me stuff. It is probably the most appropriate form letter that they had ready to send.
