I’m very happy with GoDaddy’s DNS service. This morning the host for my site went offline due to data-center power failure. Within minutes of making the DNS change with Godaddy my backup location started receiving my site’s traffic. This was very important due to the nice traffic spike BoingBoing is sending me.
So thank you GoDaddy.

Question: When you moved the location through GoDaddy did you notice a drop in email?
We’re going to be going through the same thing and although I think the web traffic won’t be an issue, what about the email?
Thanks!

My site is new, so my email volume is none existent.
Assuming that you have the mail server configured on the new host, you should be able to switch easily.
Also I think that with the MX records you can set a primary and second mail server. Take a look the at: http://www.no-ip.com/services.php/mail/backup for an example.
You could set your new mail server as your backup for a few days before the switch, then make the switch on your primary MX IP. I hope that if something goes wrong your mail should still get routed to your backup MX entry – the new server.
Also talk to your new host about this. It is a fair project for them to help with.
